Supported Living Domiciliary Care

Broadfields

Sarah Harnell, Registered Care Manager for Supported Living

Broadfields Lodge is a large Victorian property on the Erdington/Sutton Coldfield border which was converted into five high quality self-contained apartments to be used for supported living in April 2010.

There are currently six tenants living in these apartments who all have varying needs and interests and who all since moving to Broadfields have been supported by staff to live as independently as possible and have also been encouraged to make decisions on the level of support they require and when within their own home, whilst also ensuring that all the tenants are able to access all areas of, and become an active part of the local community.

Some of the tenants have recently been on holiday together and tenants often visit one another for a cup of tea and chat, this has enabled the tenants to develop new relationships with one another and in turn has created a close bond amongst the tenants.

What the tenants living at Broadfields Lodge have to say:

“I am an adult now and I live in my own flat, I am very happy”.

As stated by the Care Quality Commission after a recent inspection:

“We met two people who use the service. They told us about the ways in which workers supported them to live the lives they chose. They both confirmed that they made decisions about how they wanted to be supported, what they wanted to eat and where they wanted to go. Both said that they felt safe and we saw that they looked comfortable and happy in the company of the support workers.”
